I fully expect this to be overturned by the Supreme Court, with the ruling determining that HVAC was not specifically mentioned in the constitution.

Not so much to help the inmates but someone in power has a good buddy that sells air conditioners. /s

Wait until the next judge orders to have the prisons run the air conditioning at resonable temperatures by 2039…
I dearly hope my cynic comment ages like milk.

Sadly I don’t see the incentive for a for-profit torture trap to spend potential profit on energy bills to avoid torturing people.

They will if they stand to miss out on money if they fail to do it. That basic level of incentives is all that works at this point

Agree 100%. I’m not ragging on the judge, it should have been in place, it’s the lack of planning around the power grid. Maybe my comment was flippant, but you’re not wrong.

If this is enough to become a power grid problem, Texas needs to ask itself, “Why do we have so many people in prison?”

Should be fine, most outages are during the winter.

Prices are a different thing though

Yeah, this would cost more than the prison itself probably. You’re not demoing a residential building, these are reinforced concrete walls. I hate to play the dick card here, but they’re felons. They’re kinda supposed to have a really shitty experience?

We do have the 8th amendment. Also overheated people tend to be become agitated. That’s a good incentive to keep people more comfortable on its own in prison environment.

When you incarcerate a human being, you take on the responsibility of their livelihood.

I’m not sure why that isn’t a given.

Just because they are horrible people doesn’t mean we should be.

Doesn’t need to be heaven, but should make sure it isn’t hell, too.
