The Danish state owned broadcaster (But run for profit) TV2 has just broadcast a reality TV show. That by itself is of course bad, but this is a “Jury Duty” style reality TV show in which one person is put in a situation where everyone around them is pretending while they are the only ones unaware.
The difference is that while “Jury Duty” was a jury trial, in “Alle Elsker Rasmus” (Everybody Loves Rasmus) a small scale TV actor/Comedian is told that his movie pitch has been accepted and he’s going to be directing his first feature film. A team of actors then pretend to be a film crew, members of the production company, and so on and so forth. For 4 months they all pretend to be working on the movie he is “directing” while filming him with hidden cameras, they pretend to be negotiating with him, they pretend to have production troubles, they pretend he is making connections with members of the Danish film industry, and all the while he is the joke. For 4 fucking months he thinks he is making a movie
prankless harm
That’s monstrous
everyone involved in the deception needs to be in prison

film it, and let the aspiring director give them gameshow challenges
The capitalistic notion that it’s okay to waste 4 months of someone’s life and crush their dreams so long as they’re given compensation (the man was compensated, right?
)He was paid, but like not a lot. Like he was paid less than minimum wage for his time I believe. This money was paid to him on the condition he allow the show to be aired, had he said no they would have paid him squat and all the people who had gaslit him for months would be mad, as well as the broadcaster and the production companies involved.
On the plus side he is apparently getting a real movie deal. Nordisk Film (An actual movie studio, and IIRC the actual movie studio they were pretending gave him a deal for 4 months) are offering him an actual movie deal. TV2 is claiming there’s no connection to criticism of their actions (How would they fucking know?), Nordisk film isn’t saying why they did it. I’m suspecting they are doing it in part over not wanting to be associated with this monstrous “prank”

That is some major bullshit.
If you want an update, the show was just pulled. The broadcaster officially apologised (Even though the bosses were out defending this literally hours ago)
The guy turned down the potential development deal, because it turns out (I had misunderstood) the studio Nordisk Film had actually been involved in the “Prank” and weren’t even promising that this was a sure thing.
I feel like there should be grounds for a lawsuit or something.
I talked to a friend who is training to be a attorney (As in, they have the degrees but they’re not yet allowed to independently practise) and according to them it’s basically a no-go since they weren’t taking money from him and he agreed to the payment, so he wasn’t the victim of fraud.
Apparently his agent (Who wasn’t informed) has a better case.
This is second hand info from a person who is not yet an attorney.
what if they’re running it back
Then I am becoming a holy warrior for the cause of a guy who wants to make scary movie but in Danish.
Fuuuuck were I in that position I’d be tempted to tell them to fuck off, they waste my time I’m making sure they wasted everyone’s time.
But that would probably mean burning every possible bridge in the industry & end up screwing me even more in the long run so I’d probably eat shit and allow the most humiliating episode of my life to be broadcast nationwide
“It’s just a prank,bro!”

No amount of butter cookies can atone for this crime
The brand you probably know is owned by an Italian company
They are so fucking lucky that their victim didn’t do a
and they will probably never understand that fact.Gaslight society
But TV2 are the good guys. They gave him a crisis therapist and they paid him USD 4000 in fuck off money on condition that he accept the show being aired. And he probably knows to take the money and not to cause a fuzz if he ever wants to make it in the comedy business.
Reminds me of the Joe Schmo Show
I’ve wanted to see a Double Prank show like that. Where all the actors and most of the crew THINK they’re messing with a Joe Schmo. But the twist is that the Joe Schmo is ALSO an actor who knows that everyone else thinks they’re pranking him.
Ah so this horror show wasn’t even original.
Edit: I think 4 months of gaslighting them about their dream coming true is worse though, but that’s a matter of degrees.
Derivative and cruel
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Not the first time reality TV has so profoundly fucked with people like Space Cadets or the torture Nasubi got put through.
This is unbelievably cruel but a four month long con is respectable
I do not under any circumstances have to hand it to them
I’m not saying hand it to em I’m just saying it’s a level of commitment most sadists wouldn’t go to
Today I will recreate the omhelas from the classic scifi novella the ones who walk away from omhellas.
