After four weeks of holidays (with family, so not entirely stress free, also Christmas time lol) I’ve actually picked up a guitar again after years of not touching an instrument. That’s after being able to exercise most days, which I usually don’t have any energy for. So maybe the bag of time is just not big enough yet.

When my son was born, I had 3 months of parental leave.

The first month was spent just recuperating from work and taking care of my first one. After the first month of sleeping better and not having the stress of work, I started esting a lot better and training and lost 50 pounds in 2 months because I had the time and energy to cook well.

Over the last two years, I’ve gained back 30 pounds because my 2 years old doesn’t sleep and my job is stressful.

So I feel what you said.

I see the validity in this, but I think a big reason for it is that right now I’m so exhausted constantly that I need a significant amount of recovery time before I can actually do those things I want to.

Yeah, it took half of my 2 week break before I had enough energy to start working on cleaning the garage.

I unironically loved the pandemic for being able to progress some of my hobbies

Being able to throw myself into making music for hours without a drained social/mental battery and basically nothing to interrupt me helped me do more in a year or so than I’d managed to find time for in a decade. I also got back into enjoying long-form games that I’ve not been able to make time for outside of the pandemic. The few I’ve started since I’ve had to put down for extended periods of time and that’s kinda killed my momentum. I also read the most I’d read since I was a kid.

So I know I could definitely be given an extra couple of days a week of free time, and would have zero issues filling that time and getting something positive out of it, even if I wasn’t allowed to leave my house.

I’m not saying there weren’t downsides, but more free time was amazing

Exactly. Still paid money and given all your time back too…and still didn’t do shit, huh?

I was really envious of those in the US that got to stay home for months and do their own thing. In my part of the world it was the “the world is ending? But you’re still coming in, right?” meme. Which is central Europe. (Because people weren’t dying left and right, so you know. Silver lining.)

Uncertainty does not foster motivation nor creativity. The world was reeling from a pandemic and I don’t feel bad taking a step back from life during it.

On days off, I dont have that motivation and overwhelming choice

I thought I’d get so much done with my 5 days of use-or-lose PTO by using it up for Ano Perineum, but, here I sit on Dec 31, a day and a half left, having done just about nothing but play video games. I said I wouldn’t feel bad if that’s what happened, but now it’s like the Sunday scaries are setting in on the year
