Today we had a fire alarm in the office. A colleague wrote to a Slack channel ‘Fire alarm in the office building’, to start a thread if somebody knows any details. We have AI assistant Glean integrated into the Slack, and it answered privately to her: “today’s siren is just a scheduled test and you do not need to leave your workplace”. It was not a test or a drill, it was a real fire alarm. Someday, AI will kill us.
statistically, that’s almost always the correct response for the ai to giveIs it tho?
I really wouldn’t doubt it. I think there are more fire drills than actual fires in a workplace setting.
You do need to leave your desk for a fire drill tho.
if it’s a drill, sure. but if it’s just a test of the system, then typically not. at least in all the places i’ve worked over the years, i’ve been told plenty of times to keep working during a scheduled maintenance test, and i’ve never had to leave due to an actual fire.
Interesting. I’ve never had a test that didn’t involve a drill as well. Different local laws maybe.

This is why I removed all my smoke alerts!
Who the hell’s first response to a fire alarm is to post to slack and not immediately evacuate?
They posted on slack after evacuating.
Panic response was probably to learn more so you’re not caught off guard, it’s understandable
