However, if a user reports detected nudity in an iMessage or FaceTime video call, the relevant content is sent to Apple for review.

Sooo… who asked Apple to do the Law Enforcements job? Or do they just want to be save to not miss a nice boob?

If we lived in a world where non consensual nudes and online child luring/grooming was effectively eliminated (and that this could be attributed to the panopticon) shit like this would be a little wrinkle in an otherwise useful system.

We live in the world where monsters are in control of every lever of power, though, so this is more horror!

That’s what’s so insulting about it. IF it worked and IF it wasn’t also used to justify and set the stage for the tech used for repressing workers and the left it would be one thing. But it doesn’t work. The levers of power openly commit these crimes themselves without punishment, the structural problems that enable child abuse are built into the economic mode, and it’s absolutely used to set the technological framework for ideological repression and control of the left via surveillance and censorship in an automated way to say nothing of an odd push of prudism by the Christian fascist child abusers whose churches are full of abused kids who are forced to forgive their abusers and told if they hold anger or hate towards them that they are the sinners.

To be fair, it claims to be aimed at things like unsolicited dick picks or child porn.

They already have access to all your data, so I don’t know if this actually helps their spying, or is genuinely just a good thing (that they were probably forced to do by law).

Isn’t this on-device scanning? I will never read an article.

Apple has incredible PR, but have they also not been facilitating the feds to access plenty of data from both cloud and locked devices? I’ve lost track of who does what shady shit. Why would we trust a capitalist company to do anything else?

Porn is the first thing to be censored away, its the first victim of liberticide and of prudeism
